The Irish travelling community, Mincéirí, are on the fringes of society. They experience the lowest life expectancy rates, have limited access to health services, and low rates of education completion. For many, their treatment is an “acceptable form of racism in Ireland”. For us, understanding is the first step on the road to empathy. We wanted to address the lack of understanding of Mincéirí as an ethnic minority and foster better acceptance and fight discrimination through education and awareness.
